Champagne · indicative values: the producer, the vintage and storage conditions come first.
The whole of Champagne is a single appellation: it tells non-vintage from vintage no more than vintage from a prestige cuvée. Yet the three keep very differently, and a single bracket for all of them would say nothing at all. Here, what decides the ageing potential is the cuvée.
A 2020 vintage Champagne therefore drinks best between 2028 and 2040, while a non-vintage brut bought the same year should be opened before 2023.

Beyond it, the wine slowly declines: nothing unsafe, but the emotion fades. These are general benchmarks for the appellation, not a verdict on your bottle.
Curious where these numbers come from? The method is published in full: five levels from the estate down to the grape, corrected by the vintage and the bottle format.
