How does the label scan work?

Photograph the label (and the back label if you want): the AI reads it and fills in the estate, vintage, appellation, colour and grapes on its own. It works even for small growers and foreign wines that no database knows. Everything stays editable before you save.

How much does Caviste cost?

Caviste is free to download. Every new account gets a 7-day trial, with an unlimited cellar and sommelier. Afterwards the free tier includes 30 bottle sheets and 3 sommelier pairings. AI scanning has its own allowance: 50 free photos for the life of the account, trial included, because every photo puts an AI to work. The Premium subscription removes the limits and unlocks bulk add. CSV import, though, is free for everyone. You can cancel anytime from the App Store or Google Play.

How does Caviste know when to drink a bottle?

Caviste resolves a drinking window from the most precise thing it knows about the bottle, falling back in order: 217 named estates first, then the cuvée level for Champagne, then 855 appellations (Riserva, Gran Reserva and 1er Cru included, see the appellation guide), then 225 regions, then 74 grape varieties, so nothing falls through. The vintage then moves that window, because a great year outlives an average one, and the bottle format adjusts it. These are indicative oenological benchmarks: you can adjust the window on any bottle, and opt in to a discreet reminder when a bottle reaches its peak.

How does the Caviste sommelier work?

Describe your menu in one sentence, the way you would tell a wine merchant: "a barbecue with beef and sautéed potatoes". The sommelier picks up to three bottles from your own cellar, explains each pairing, tells you which one is at its peak and which rack to find it in. It never suggests a wine you do not own. Three pairings are free, then it is a Premium feature; the food pairing by affinity stays free and works offline.

Can Caviste tell me where a bottle physically is?

Yes, that is the cellar map. You draw your rack the way it really is: rows and columns, a fridge, a crate in the garage. Then you drag each bottle into its hole, or let Caviste fill the free slots for you. From a bottle sheet, "Locate" lights up its spot. The same rack reads by colour, by how close each bottle is to its peak, or by how long it has been asleep.

Is my cellar data private?

Yes. Caviste is a private cellar tool, not a social network. Your data is hosted in the European Union, never sold, and you can delete your account and all its data directly from the app settings. Details in the privacy policy.

Does Caviste work offline?

Your cellar stays readable offline: the app keeps a local copy. Scanning a label and syncing changes require an internet connection.

Can I import an existing cellar?

Yes, and it's free. Import a CSV file from a spreadsheet or from another app's export (CellarTracker, Vivino, Vinocell and more): Caviste recognises common columns, including the drinking windows CellarTracker exports. You can download an example file to see the expected format.

Only one column is required: "Estate" (or "Domaine"), the one holding the wine or producer name. Everything else is optional and stays editable after the import. The separator is detected on its own, whether your file uses a comma, a semicolon (what Excel writes in many European locales) or a tab.

If accented characters look wrong, your file is not UTF-8, which is what Excel on Windows saves by default. Use "File", "Save As" and pick the CSV UTF-8 format. The app refuses those files rather than importing unreadable entries.

The 7-day trial lets you import your whole cellar. Afterwards, the free plan keeps all your bottles but caps new additions at 30 sheets; Premium removes the limit and unlocks bulk add (several bottles per photo).

How do I cancel or restore my subscription?

The subscription is managed by your store account. On iOS: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android: Play Store, profile, Payments and subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. On a new phone, sign in with the same account and use "Restore purchases" in the app settings.

Which wines does Caviste know?

The ageing table covers French appellations and well-known foreign ones (Italy, Spain, Portugal and more), with regional fallbacks for other wine countries. Any wine can be added and edited by hand, whatever its origin.
